Delete your account

Permanent, and cannot be undone

You can ask us to permanently delete your Mallo Map account and everything stored under it. Deletion is currently handled by request rather than by a button — email us and we will action it.

How to request deletion

Email support@geoffmallinson.com from the address registered to your account, with the subject “Account deletion”. We use the sending address to confirm the request is really yours, so a request sent from a different address will need extra verification.

Email a deletion request

We will confirm by reply and complete the deletion within 30 days, usually much sooner. You can cancel the request any time before it is actioned.

What gets deleted

Everything held under your account, specifically:

  • your sign-in record and your profile — name and email address;
  • all recorded tracks and the GPS points within them;
  • all waypoints, including their notes;
  • all folders and saved views;
  • all map drawings;
  • all photos you uploaded, both the stored image files and their database records;
  • trips you own, and your membership of trips owned by others;
  • any sharing records connecting your items to other users; and
  • your push notification tokens.

What we cannot delete

Some things are outside our reach once you have shared them, and you should know about these before requesting deletion:

  • Content already shared with other users. Where someone else has a copy of a track or waypoint you shared with them, their copy remains theirs.
  • Trips owned by someone else that you contributed to. Your membership is removed, but content you added to another person’s trip stays with that trip. Ask the trip owner if you want it removed.
  • Files other people have already downloaded from a public trip link, or photos they saved from a public photo URL. We cannot recall these.
  • Data on your own device. Deleting the app from your iPhone removes the local copy.

We may also retain a minimal record of the deletion request itself where we are required to, for example to demonstrate we actioned it.

Anonymous accounts

If you have only ever used Mallo Map without signing up, your data is under an anonymous account with no email address attached. We have no way to verify who owns such an account, so we cannot action a deletion request for one. Deleting the app from your device removes the local copy, and the orphaned backend data is not linked to any identifiable person.

Just want a break?

You do not have to delete your account to stop syncing — signing out in the app stops new data going to our backend, and you can sign back in later with everything intact. Deletion is irreversible.
